POEM OF THE WEEK: So You Called Me A Bitch!
by Dr. Kimmika Williams-Witherspoon

sponsored by the Los Angeles Black Book Expo
Voicing the sentiments many older women feel as hip hop, movies, tv shows, young people, as men and women call females “bitch,” Kimmika’s hard hitting style makes it clear that “bitch” it is not a term of endearment.
Master Griot / NBBTA Radio Celebrates Dr. Kimmika Williams-Witherspoon for National Poetry Month
Our hope at Master Griot / NBBTA Radio is that this piece will instill in women young and old, the indignation a women should feel when being called out of her name while instilling in men that using the term is unacceptable.

M’Reld Green - What About the Forgotten Faces of the Ghetto?
POEM OF THE WEEK by M’Reld Green
sponsored by BLACK IN TIME ENTERPRISES
…I’m sick of these ghetto stories on Maury
I said, I’m sick of these ghetto stories on Maury
5 babie’s daddies and sadly not no person mentions AIDS
No one mentions how HIV is putting Black bodies in graves
‘Cause all I hear in these rappers verses
is gun clapping, more Black bodies in hearsts
The truth is y’all, the state is not handing out numbers,
they handing out letters
Judge is not afraid to L I F E, life your behind
I bet you won’t be thinking about Jeezy or 50 Cents
while you sitting in a cell watching your life go behind…
With these words I want to light your path
With the heart of an angel and the soul of a rebel…
Our Response to Your Money, Their Media… (WHO RUNS THE WORLD?) genesisbe.wordpress.com
Genesis Be, Excellent relevant and timely article. The negative imaging of Blacks in the media is has not only continued to perpetrate the not fully human world view of Blacks, but it has begun to erode the minds and direct the actions of many. Yes, life imitates art.
My contribution to the solution is creating awareness of the every day life of the 99%, connect existing great art, music, and media directly to the community, and cultivate ownership of esteem building art and entertainment along with the kinship community via strategic collaboration among artists, businesses, and commUNITY.

“Understanding that it is through the ownership of our art that we can combat the negative imaging of Blacks in art and media and the effects thereof…”
